STAR SINGERS:   Homage to Dan Rathgoate

Dan Rathgoate is a special and well known artist from South Africa. He painted prolifically during the years leading to his self-prophesized loss of eyesight but then he continued with poetry. In Star Singer the Father Sun and Mother Moon hold centre stage. Lunar is all things female and in traditional African beliefs is only at her full glow when supported by a caring and unselfish man. The sun as we know it sheds its light upon the moon we see in the sky and we stare at her with awe and pull almost as regular as the tides of the sea. The stars surrounding these great ‘lights in the sky’ are the children of Solar and Lunar and they are singing the joys of their parents.
