Weaver at

My Name is Nomtheliso Ngxoni.

I was born 01-07-1966 in Lady Frere in the Transkei. I am the first born in my family and I started school in 1975. Times were not always as easy as they are today. I struggled to get through school but eventually managed to pass matric with financial help from my family.

Some years ago, after a move to Cape Town I met Nazeema at the old Philani project and soon found myself under her watchful eyes – learning to weave. She is an amazing mentor and someone I am grateful to have found. The Kraal Gallery and Nazeema taught me more and more skill. We eventually took this skill and slowly began teaching it to others. Today I am a teacher, busy on a project involving 70 ladies in the rural town of Genadendal. We aim to teach, bring hope and transform the futures of the ladies who learn from us. It is very rewarding.

Please see more of Nomtheliso’s work at the KRAAL Gallery, Stellenbosch.
